This design is inspired by my mother’s tattoos, which feature a mix of spiritual and 12-step iconography. The art depicts the sacred heart, a Catholic image said to represent Jesus’s love for all people. I chose to mimic Jesus’s hands with a naloxone nasal spray and syringe to reclaim the religious icon in the name of unconditional love. People who use drugs perform the so-called “miracle” of resurrection every day, and for that they deserve sainthood.
